Saving the planet has been our mission for years now; as humans, we want to keep Earth the way it is, with its breathtaking greenery, its mesmerizing oceans, and its infinite skies. But how do we do that when the environment is breaking down little by little?
Solarimon has a few answers to that question.
We are Solarimon – and we are here to help.
Greener lifestyle and sustainability have planted roots in the minds of impressionable people around the world today, and for a good reason. However, many of us still wonder how keeping up with this lifestyle, and how sustaining our worldly environment can possibly be done the right way.
Let us tell you a story about Solarimon before we go any further.
We all know what solar means, but what about the term “Rimon?” Here’s our #1 fun fact of the day:
Rimon means pomegranates.
We know what you’re thinking: “What do pomegranates have to do with sustainability and the worldly environment?”
Pomegranates are healthy. Pomegranates are grown by feeding off of the Earth’s soil. Pomegranates have everything to do with our environment – but then again, so do other crops, fruits, and vegetables. That’s beside the point.
We chose the terms “Solar” and “Rimon” to work together for one special reason: We wanted our clients to understand we mean business. We wanted to get through to everyone on the solar topic, yes, but we also wanted to make our customers aware that the overall environment is super important, too. That means we need to learn how to live a healthier, more sustainable, greener lifestyle. One way to do that is to farm using more energy-efficient practices. Another way is to install solar on our roofs. But we’ll get to those suggestions.
Basically, we’re here to tell you that there are a number of ways you can achieve this goal, and we’ve created a checklist to help guide you along the right path. If you have any questions related to greener lifest after reading the summary, don’t you worry, we’ll be here to help and clear everything up for you. Just stick around for the ride, and you’ll surely be happy you learned all you did in the end.
Greener Lifestyle & Sustainability: The Ultimate Checklist
Suggestion #1: Ensure that your home has proper insulation throughout.
Proper insulation is essential. Have a professional check the insulation levels in rooms like your attic, basement, ceilings, floors, and small crawl spaces. Don’t fret, we have a professional on hand for you – and if you’re super knowledgeable in these matters, you can even do it yourself!
Suggestion #2: Change your lightbulbs throughout your home.
The cheaper lightbulbs usually take up more energy, and they aren’t good at keeping up with greener lifestyles. Switch over to fluorescent light bulbs; technically speaking, they produce approximately 75% less heat and energy than that of a regular light bulb. What’s more, is that they can last for much, much longer than the average bulb.
Suggestion #3: Purchase a hybrid or electric vehicle.
Regular cars can clog up breathing air with all those unwanted chemicals roaming around in the atmosphere. If you live in a city or extra busy suburban area, look into purchasing a hybrid for your next vehicle. If, on the other hand, you tend to do most of your driving on the highway, lean towards purchasing a diesel engine; they’re extremely eco-friendly.
Another option would be to check into electrical cars; if you have solar paneling on your roof, or you’re looking to install it soon, your electrical car will thank you. You see, electric cars can use the solar installation to charge up their batteries, even with as little as 10 panels! You’ll be getting sustainable energy for your home appliances and your car if you take this route.
Suggestion #4: Rotate the crops that you grow.
Think about it this way: Planting the same crops year after year in the same exact spot is bad for your soil. It’s true; continuously planting the same crops in the same location will quite literally drain the natural nutrients away – leaving your plants extremely malnourished in a couple years’ time. All you have to do to avoid this is to plant different crops in that soil every few years. It’ll spice things up, to say the least.
Suggestion #5: Garden the right way – and the budget-friendly way – use rainwater.
The older folks always tried telling us that rainwater is the perfect medicine for thirsty plants, so why didn’t we think what they were telling us was true? That, my friend, we cannot answer for you. But we can tell you what rainwater can do for you. Rainwater is much better than faucet water for your plants and crops, and it’s absolutely free! Instead of letting it drain down the driveway or road, buy yourself a rain garden, swale, or rain barrel and let it sit outside where it’ll collect the rainwater for you. Then, pour it over the areas of your greenery or garden that need a little extra tender love and care.
Suggestion #6: If you have an AC, or AC units in your home, clean the filters every so often.
Keeping the outside of your AC unit clean is essential, but that’s not the only problem you should clear up. You need to keep your air filters clean, too. If you need a professional to help you with this, we can help you out; or, if you know what you’re doing, make sure you mark this chore on your calendar every few weeks. Also, remember to completely replace the filters at least once every season – especially if you use the cooling agent a lot.
Suggestion #7: Raise the temperature in your house a little bit this year. Or, consider different AC options.
It’s not the most ideal suggestion, but let us tell you, it does work. We understand; committing to increasing the temperature in your house is not a fun idea to play with. But think about it this way: Bump up the temperature by only three degrees and you’ll save on energy in a jiffy. When the weather starts to get cooler at night, open those windows and avoid AC use at all costs.
If you don’t necessarily want to turn off your AC, that’s okay; we get it. There are three options you can lean towards:
- Window units
- Ductless mini-split units
- Central AC
Watch out what you’re purchasing for a window unit. The more up-to-date and recent editions are energy efficient; older models, not so much. Ductless mini-split units and central AC, however, are energy efficient.
Suggestion #8: Buy a laptop, get away from the desktops.
Desktop computers use an excessive amount of energy just to stay on for a few hours. And let’s be honest, how often have you left your computer on throughout the day and night? You don’t unplug that technology, because many people don’t. Purchase a laptop instead and automatically set it to go into sleep mode the second you shut it.
Suggestion #9: Bleed any trapped air from your hot water radiators a few times a year.
It’s okay if you don’t know how to tackle this – that just means you need a professional on deck! Don’t hesitate to reach out to us to find a solution to this sustainability issue.
Suggestion #10: Recycle when possible and avoid letting harmful substances out into the air.
We know the saying, you know the saying, everyone knows the saying: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle.
So, let’s start doing it! Recycling plastic is a better way to make sure that the harmful substances within the plastic don’t get secreted into our breathing air. Other products can be recycled to avoid debris, too, such as aluminum cans and cardboard boxes.
Need a suggestion to keep the family up to par and onboard with recycling? Place a small bin in the areas of the home where you eat and drink the most with a recycle label above or on it. Assign someone to take out the recycling each week and keep up with the strategy.
If at all possible, purchase products that are sealed within biodegradable materials; that way, if the excess does get burned or released into the air, it won’t harm the environment whatsoever.
As for letting harmful substances out into the air, avoid using unhealthy cleaning supplies. If you have any questions regarding this matter, speak with one of our professionals today. However, if you read the ingredients on the cleaning product label, you’ll most likely be able to tell what’s healthy and what’s not.
Suggestion #11: Install solar paneling on your roof.
Use the sun to create energy instead of using artificial heat and all of that other environmentally non-friendly junk. If you install solar paneling today, you won’t only improve your lifestyle, but you’ll also save a few extra bucks every month with your energy bills.
Sustainability isn’t just about saying you live a greener lifestyle it’s about actually living that greener lifestyle.
